Took this and several other Mountain House meals on a fishing trip to the BWCA. Taste was a lot better than expected and actually very good for a freeze dried meal. Just purchased a total of 25 meals for another fishing trip.

I've tried a doz other MH meals and they were all good. I used 2 c. water as specified, stirred and sealed it, and after it "cooked," it looked like about 1 c. too much water. Also, it specified 9 mins "cook" time. The noodles were not soft for at least 20-30 mins. The taste was meh and chalky like. And it was mac & cheese soup, literally. The blue box is WAY better.

I have used Mountain House meals as my primary food source for 2000+ miles of the PCT. They are lightweight, nutritious, easy to prepare, and there is enough variety that I don't tire of any of the meals on a 3-week hike. The empty pouches are a trash issue, but the trash weight is minimal (lighter than full pouches), and I can usually find somebody to dispose of the empties for me.

I haven't really done a ton of backpacking, but I'm training for a JMT section from SEKI to Yosemite, so I've started trying some meals on the side to see what I like. I think this stuff kicks the pants off of any other box M&C that I would normally cook on a stove top.

The MH Mac and Cheese is one of my favorites. A great comfort food after a day on the trail. Great flavor. I've added meat to this while it's 'steeping', to kick up the protein level and for a heartier meal. Also makes a great breakfast for the trail.

This meal contains the most calories for weight of any of the mountain house products. And it tastes pretty good. I put in slightly less than the 16 oz of water called for to keep it from getting too soupy.
Sometimes I add bacon bits or tuna to add a little extra punch.

Be sure to stirr this one very well or you will get dried clumps of cheese.
This meal is great when mixed with Mountain House Chili Mac w/Beef. Cook both and then scoop out from each bag into your bowl/mes-kit.

Mountain House mac and cheese is my favorite after a long day on the trail. It just rocks! Make sure to stir really well and leave the pouch closed a few minutes extra so you don't end up with "crunchy" noodles, especially at altitude. Like it so much I bought extra to put in my earthquake emergency kit.
