I have three or four daypacks and this is the one I always seem to grab. It's super light and it has a realistic amount of space. I don't need a huge bag with a lot of dead space but even though this pack is smaller it holds everything I need for my day hike. I usually hike 5-10 miles for my day hikes near Estes, Colorado. I usually bring a jacket, two water bottles, collapsible dog bowl , headlamp, small first aid kit, car keys and iphone. The other great feature on this pack is the space between the pack and my back (the Load Dispersing). It is very comfortable and great for those hot colorado trails in the summer.
Love the Mountainsmith Spirit 12 pack!

I have used this pack on day hikes, light tourism-style travel, and for weekly scientific data gathering. I find the 'Load Dispersing' wonderful for keeping me back cool and dry. This is very nice when you are a tourist or day hiking and likely going out to eat, et cetera, and not having a sweat-mark is great. When gathering data for scientific monitoring the pack easily holds a rain shell, my pro

The load dispersion technology, as Mountainsmith has termed it, is really fantastic. No overheating, sweating, as the dispersion really works well. I have used this for scientific research data gathering. I use the chest strap to hold my large GPS, everything on the pack is easily adjustable, and the interior of the pack allows for a bladder and doesn't have too many obstructions inside the pack.

The recycled PET material is perfect for this kind of pack.
Internal divider for sleeping bag is great.
You have room for 2 hydration bladders if you use both slot including the one in the DETACHABLE day pack.
Plenty of room for trips up to a week!
