Beautiful design, but heavy - MSR Elixir 2 Tent - 2 Person, 3 Season

I truly love this tent. Really, I do. I love the pole design, the way the doors zip open and secure. The vestibules are nice and big. There are big inside pockets for holding all kinds of stuff, and the head room inside the tent is beyond adequate. Also, the inclusion of the footprint is a big plus. Overall, the build quality is top-notch and the Elixir tent is a great value. I would classify it as a luxury backpacking tent. Unfortunately, I decided to send mine back before it saw any trail use. And the simple reason I couldn't keep it is this: it's heavy. The packed weight in the Tech Specs is about right. I double checked the 5lb 13oz figure, and that number is almost spot-on. I've decided I need something more minimalist. After all, I've been lugging around a 5-lb tent around for years. My next tent ought to be in the ultralight class, e.g. MSR Hubba Hubba, Big Agnes Copper Spur, or the latest iteration of REI's Quarter Dome.
