First, the poles are extremely light and very strong. If you should want to purchase the MSR Powder Baskets for extreme powder then it is easy to remove the snow baskets on the poles with the MSR Powder Baskets by unscrewing a lock screw on the poles. My friends have the poles made by a very reputable competitor to MSR and it is necessary to cut off the baskets to upgrade them. We all had the same MSR snow shoes, but I had MSR snow poles as well! Lastly, the poles are easy to extend and retract. As a general statement, MSR gear is not only very rugged, but easy to use when the user is making adjustments when using their gear.
