I bought a no name brand tube snowshoes from Amazon before for $50 which does not work when I have to go uphill on steep slope.
This lightning has grip on the core and also on the outer ring which provide good grip on uphill steep slope.
I also like that I can put in attachment to make this longer when I carry heavier load or when the snow is more powder. When I only carry regular backpack, then I don't need the attachment so it is lighter, more compact and not cumbersome to walk on.
Pros:
- Grip on uphill steeper slope

Snowshoes are awesome. Easy to get into and out of, even with gloves on. This is first pair I’ve ever owned, so I anticipated a huge learning curve but found walking with them quite easy. If you like either hiking these are for you!

After buying cheap snowshoes, I wanted to invest in a durable and well-fitting pair designed for women. I had seen numerous reviews recommending MSR Lightning Ascent Snowshoes as the top snowshoes for winter hiking in the White Mountains of NH. Reviews state they have good traction, heel flexibility, are designed for a narrower women’s gait, and are easy to get on/off. I’m 5’2”, 112 lbs and bought the 22” model. They were sold out for two years and I finally got a great deal through Campsaver. There was an issue with my order and the friendly customer service team resolved it quickly and offered an extra discount for the inconvenience. Looking forward to testing them out this winter!
Pros:
- Womens Cut
- technical features
- durabililty

I had an old pair of snow shoes. I went on a group outing backcountry... 'over hill and over dale' and down the side of a mountain with no edge grips. That was it. I bought these MSR Top of the line snow shoes with side edges. So far awesome, though no over hill yet. Besides the edge grips and the heel lift the bindings are fabulous. I hope they last but boy do they tighten! On my old snow shoes they kept loosening. These will not. Also very big shout out to campsaver I just discovered them. I have already bought a last season Rabb coat on a great sale and they had sent a 25% off coupon that I was able to use on these snow shoes.

Putting this on and hiking is like walking on sunshine. Cold hard sunshine... These are so much lighter than the EVOs I had and they make going up hills a cakewalk! Very satisfied and looking forward to more snowshoeing. If only El Nino would cooperate in SoCal....

Wonderful snowshoes, couldn't ask for better. Easy to strap in and out and feel very secure on the uphill and downhill.

I have used a version of these snowshoes for the last 8 years every Winter and would not even consider purchasing another brand. I have used them on icy surfaces and not slipped, in soft snow and stickly snow that sticks on the bottom of some of my friends snowshoes but not these. So I am replacing my older pair - just slight tearing of the platforms after all these years. Hope to get many more

I have been snowshoeing every Winter for the last 10 years. The first 2 pairs of snowshoes I purchased failed in one way or another and then I joined an outdoor hiking group and every single person on the first snowshoe I went on was wearing MSR Lightnings.
I bought a pair and wore them for 8 years - could have continued to wear them but wanted to try the televators on the newer model. The straps

Great aggressive shoe, perfect traction on deep powder or sloping ice. Crampons aggressive enough for steep pitches, televators take all the calf strain away on the unrelenting ups.
