Beat Backpack Ever
I recently used this pack for the first time on a backpacking trip in the eastern Sierras. It is the most comfortable pack I have used during the past 10 years. Without any difficulty, it accommodated our 2-person tent, a 20-degree down sleeping bag, a BearVault 475, clothing, group gear (cooking gear, etc.), parka (it was 29 degrees at night), etc. The front pockets are great for quickly accessing things like wind jacket and gloves, the hip belt pockets are immense, and the entire pack opens up easily. I made more interior room by storing the hydration bladder in a side pocket, which worked well. Will be using this pack again in Grand Canyon; can’t wait!
Pros:
- everything
Cons:
- Could use a key chain hook
Best Used for:
- Backpacking (multi-day)
- backpacking multiday

Mystery Ranch Coulee a Great Pack for Short Trips
My wife and I for the past few years have been trying out a number of ultra-light backpacks, in an effort to cut as much weight as possible. We tried ULA, Durston, Z-Packs, etc. Despite what the manufacturers say, they are ALL uncomfortable when carrying a bear can, especially after a few hours. Does not matter how you pack them or what you wrap around them; our 72 and 70-year old bodies still hurt. We decided to go the other direction. We had always heard that despite the weight, Mystery Ranch packs are very comfortable, and we found that to be the case. A very versatile pack.
