A very good shell without any exterior logos

by GT North, Written on April 23, 2016
The Shroud of Purrin can be worn with just a T-shirt in cool temps (above freezing), it's more breathable than down so you don't overheat, while still being a great wind barrier. The pile lining and hood make this very effective as an all weather shell. Multiple zippered interior and exterior pockets make it a decent travel jacket as well.

There are a few issues with sizing that will save you a return. If you are "between sizes" , or you want to use it as a shell over layers, go to the larger size.
I am 6'1" 190, wear a 42 long jacket, 34 inch sleeve. The XL fits my torso well, but the sleeves are about 2-3 inches too long. But I find this to be advantageous when riding a bicycle, the sleeves provide protection where others would ride up the forearm.

My solution is just to roll the sleeves up or down depending on the situation. If I forget a pair of gloves, the sleeves keep my hands from freezing on the brake levers. I've had the jacket through a winter which saw a lot of wet snow and the shell never allowed water in. Paired with a wool base layer and mid layer you could take a walk in sub zero temps or in the middle of a snow squall and be dry and toasty.

Over several months of wear and tear and wash cycles, the material has held up, the pile lining hasn't pilled, the zippers all ...

A versatile soft shell without the annoying logos on display

by GT North, Written on November 4, 2015
The Shroud of Purrin blends performance with style. With it you get a fairly water resistant, breathable, lightly insulated soft shell with a hood.

A word to the wise: This is a slim fit, so if you plan on layering with any significant thickness underneath, size up. I could have worn the large (I am 6' 1" and 200 lbs, broad shoulders) with just a shirt underneath, so I went with the XL. The XLs sleeves were about 1 1/2 inches too long, I don't mind that because it's good to have that when bicycling or if you happen to forget gloves you can cover up most of your hand.

The material feels thick and the lining provides a little extra warmth. The DWR finish beads water and shrugs off snow. With laying, it can get you through some very cold weather.
