I got these little light locking biners for a PCT bear hang. Using a regular carabiner means you run the risk of getting your food
stuck way up a tree! Check out the youtube videos. This locking biner solves the problem and is super lightweight. I've got one stowed in my bear hanging kit and bought another for a spare. Good product.
