Backcountry Shove
This shovel is a litte on the heavy side, however, it is sturdy and I foresee no issues with this handling years of use in the backcountry. The best feature is easily it’s durability and length of handle. In an emergency this could easily make the difference between a tragedy or saving a life. An extra few ounces is a small price to pay.
Pros:
- adjustable
- Sturdy and built to last
- long handle
- multi angle
Cons:
- Heavier than other models
Best Used for:
- Backcountry skiing
Would recommend: Yes

Work Horse
I have had this shovel for 3 seasons of use as a backcountry ski guide, avalanche educator and its done 4 trips up Denali. This thing is burly. I have personally broken other shovels before so to have one last through three seasons of abuse is awesome. I really like the "D" handle and the snow clearing "hoe mode" capabilities of this shovel. The large blade makes digging a study pit or a shelter super fast and easy. basically if you want to buy a shovel that will last you forever this is the one
