Rose Ciulla's Review of Osprey Daylite Plus 20L Daypack
Purchased green with tan stapping, black diamond cut print nylon front.
Very nice bag, looks great nice earthy colors, very spacious for such a small-ish day pack, fits tons of stuff. Starting with front nice sized top pocket for personal items, wallet, keys, passport, tickets, etc. Your only issue here is a way to lock for traveling. Trying different things like twiting zipper pulls inside each other then lashing with a nice quality clip type carabina siill leaves the thin cord on the zipper easily to be cut. I see no remededy because this on cord loops through the zippers themselves unless you get wire key pull locks. The zippers themselves are silver, to me looks weird. Top pocket has two mesh slide in pockets that have little loops on the front of each pocket to lash in items plus it has a key fob. Very nice detail. I fit in a LL Bean nylon zipper case (like a makeup case) to further the organization of my little personal items for travel and it matches and fit perfectly, with still room for phone, glasses and wallet (Passport), field stle notebook. So just a Goldie Locks size. Beneath that is what I chose this bag for, like a kangaroo pouch/expandable open pocket. Just awesome to put a wet rain poncho in, or pakable rain jacket or wind breaker keeping it neat, compressed, tucked away, and out of main pack. It would fit a large like thon microfiber towel for the beach but nothing of substantial girth. I have a like brush swade huge thin towel that fits great. The compression straps really cinch this down nice. On the top of the bag at the end of compression straps is a loop and buckle where you can piggy back this onto other Osprey pack. This loop comes in handy to carabina on an umbrella or walking poles underneath compression straps and then can just slip bottom into the water bottle pocket. On that panel of the front pexpabdable pocket pocket is a nice sideways zip pocket good for sanitizing wipes, or gloves, a map and a few snacks. Anything fault thin. It is about 9 3/4 inches long and slants in front 9 inches top to 5 as you hit the bottom. The size of the pocket depends on what you have in the pouch. So great to grab things without opening the pack. Or this eould be great for camera batteries and a thin power bank like the Anker 13,000 mAh which is what I have. The side water bottle pockets are great for me I use either a thin 32 oz keen Kanteen and Smart Water bottles. The mesh is stretchy material, thick, elastic top. The zippers themselves are very nice reversed zip. The main compartment has a fap over the zip, zips half way down which is awesome, and is very roomy with a padded slip pocket and clip. Behind the back panel is an open slip pocket with a water bladder clip. Love that feature. You could slip in your phone or iPod and easily use head phones from that pocket as well. The carry handle is on the shoulder straps and I actually like that, it's thicker and padded not like just a strap like on most packs *** Now you have to be mindful that this is a daypack for really light weight items. And only because of the shoulder straps. The shoulder straps are very thin with next to no padding. I bought this for a day to maybe overnight if need be pack that I could carry two 32 pounces of water, a Be Free filter, a toaks totanim 750 ml pot, sm. canster fuel and minuture jet stove inside that a titanium Firebox and screen, A titanium plate, Mountain House type food, my Humming Bird Hammock, a tiny nylon like beach mat, a SIL nylon tarp, and a few other items for a day to overnight use. I rigged a way to lash on my my sleeping bag at the bottom. The pack can surely handle this with ease, stuff is not heavy, but the straps are a nightmare. At least for a women. They dig right into your shoulder blades. But there is hope. I had to make my own shoulder pads for the top for over my shoulders making the strap widet which was pretty easy using sturdy foam sheet I wove through the stap and some matching Terry Soft Socks I cut the end off of to put over the pads. Works perfect. ***So for buying this bag on a great sale here on Campsaver, I really got a gem with the shoulder strap mod. So don't disregard this pack because of the shoulder strap reviews. I have a Mountainsmith of equal size, 20 dollars more if this was full price, women's cut that I love for comfort and dispise for pockets and organization. Drives me crazy. Everything is so hard to get at, I have to always dump everything out to get at things, three quarter sip is a pain, the shape is weird and it has bungie in the front instead of the pouch pocket so things always get snagged in bushes. Same side bottle pockets. This back outside of the straps was really thought out and designed so much better. ***My last gripe though is strap keepers. I wish Opsrey would go that tiny extra yard to sew up some elastic stap keepers. They include a whistle why not a few rounds of elastic it's just bizzate. Hope that changes !
