Most Helpful Positive Review Versatile Layer
The Houdini is great for backpacking, climbing, hiking and paddling. I use it clipped to my harness for a layer at belay stations, a quick layer on windy ridges, and a bug layer that the no see-ums and mosquitos can't bite through and when its hot out this is way more comfortable then wearing your rain jacket as a bug proof layer.

Needed it for a Snow trip

by DF, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on February 7, 2018
We ordered it for a snow trip. I had read that it was a good shell for the snow. We will see if it works for what we need. We were looking for something light weight and not bulky like other jackets.
Pros:
  • Light weight
  • waterproof
  • hooded
  • high neck
Cons:
  • not insulated

Perfect equipment for staying warm and dry and not getting loaded down or restricted.

by Antony, Verified Owner from NIL, Hong Kong Written on November 24, 2017
I really love my Patagonia Houdini jacket.

I think these are not for everyone,
and it takes some getting used to NOT having
any side pockets. The chest pocket is high and
very small, but I just put my iPhone in it and
listen to music or audiobooks.

These are perfect in a windy or rainy
environment. If I don't know I roll the thing
up in its little packet and stuff it in my back
pants pocket. if I need it, I can pop it out and
have it on in seconds, and it keeps me both
warm and dry.

Awesome lightweight jacket

by Tom, Verified Owner from MA, United States Written on September 2, 2017
After hearing everyone talk about the Houdini, I decided to grab one on sale here. I'm not a runner, so I mainly wear this jacket for morning strolls when chilly, golfing, or hiking atop mountains where the wind and sun is strong. The Houdini is very form fitting as described under it's fit section. If you are a larger build, I would recommend sizing up one as it may be tight around the stomach and chest area. Also recommend sizing up if you intend to wear a sweater or fleece under this for a lightweight solution in the cold
Pros:
  • Very light
  • Windproof
  • Water resitant
  • Looks stylish for a windbreaker
Cons:
  • Hood is not stowable
Best Used for:
  • Running hiking and rock climbing
Would recommend: Yes

Great wind shirt

by JT, from TN, United States Written on August 30, 2017
I have to say does a wonderful job keeping the wind out and the DWR does a more than adequate job in light showers in keeping me dry. The fit is a little tight across the chest and shoulders but the arms are a little long so the fit is a little strange for me.
Pros:
  • packs small
  • Lightweight
Cons:
  • I find the fit to be strange
Best Used for:
  • Wind shirt paired with an insulating layer or base layer

I have both the hooded and no hooded versions. I use them for disc golf. Super light weight and packable. Best ultralight wind breaker.

Jack of all trades

by Andy F., from MA, United States Written on June 13, 2017
The houdini jacket is a must have for anyone spending a lot of time outside. It is 100% windproof, very water resistant if you get caught in a downpour and packs to the size of an apple. It is not a full service rain jacket for full days in thunderstorms, but an incredibly useful piece that comes with me everywhere!

Great Wind Jacket

This is just what I was looking for. I’m using it as a shell jacket for x-country skiing, but I can imagine this will be of use year-round.

too small

by speedbump, Verified Owner from MI, United States Written on December 6, 2016
I have an older version of the Houdini. Love it, but it is patched up a bit too much now. I want a new one. But the sizing is one size too small now, compared to old sizing. I wear a L/XL and ordered an XL. It is too tight. They don't make an XXL. So too bad for me. I had to return the XL and remember not to buy "athletic fit" for my layering system. bah, humbug.
