This sweater is very cozy and soft but for being a technical piece there are a few design elements it lacks that kill the deal for me. 1. The zipper. It is way too bulky so if you intend to zip it up to your chain, you’ll feel the heavy zipper digging in. There is also no zipper guard at all which I assume is because it’s reversible size so be prepared to feel cold zipper against your skin. 2. No pockets if you reverse it. 3. The asymmetrical hem on the cuffs is just weird looking to me 3. The hood shape is so tiny and awkward. It’s definitely designed for hiding under a helmet in the backcountry or something. If you zip it up all the way you look like Kenny from South Park. It’s definitely not designed to be worn extensively as an outer layer. Otherwise it’s very warm and I’m sure would keep me warm under a shell if I didn’t return it.

i love my new R3! i've worn it every day since i received it maybe 2 weeks ago. i have the R1 and love it too, but it didn't offer as much warmth as i needed for winter months around the house and under my down jacket when i went out. i got the R3 for its extra weight and warmth and it's perfect.

re: the reversible sides: i like the look of the contrast patagonia pocket side (and the smoother finish of the fleece on that side, which also allows the fuzzier cozier fleece *other side to be touching your skin), but that side doesnt have hand pockets, which i always want. i guess it makes sense to give you a pocket option on either reversible side, but i kinda wish i could have the chest pocket/smoother fleece look WITH the functionality of hand pockets on the SAME side for coziness. like i'd prefer it to be NOT reversible so i could have all that on one side.

for fit, i'm petite with slim waist and hips. the XS jacket kind of flares out there and allows for wider hips. i wish it was a straighter, more slender fit there, but it's acceptable for layering, and it's too cozy for me to hold that against it. the hood looks weird and unflattering when on; it fits weird on my head, so i have to make sure to wear a separate jacket hood over it so it looks normal if i wear it up. it is warm though.

i love the lupine color too--neutral gray with a kick of lavender to make it a beautiful deep fun color while still matching with everything!

Love the r3! Its warm, fits perfectly, and is super soft!

Given as gift so I do not how to future rate this.
