The Princeton Tec Byte is a fantastic little light! Here are the reasons why:
First off, it is very light weight, weighing in at around 2.5 ounces with alkaline batteries (yes, it can use lithium batteries saving additional weight). I also love that I don't waste a battery because most batteries are sold in X2 or X4 packs.
Second, it is insanely bright for only needing X2 AAA batteries. I'm fascinated by the fact that with only two AAA batteries it can produce 70 lumens of light! It has a low and high mode, and a red light mode.
Third, it is voltage regulated. What this means for you is that it will drain the batteries very consistently throughout it's life. You will get a consistent light output throughout the battery's life and then the light will quickly die. This also means that any battery type can be used including lithium and rechargeable batteries.
Fourth, there is am on/off switch on the battery cover so when it is not in use the batteries won't be drained while in the off position. This is necessary due to the 'burst' circuit needed to generate 70 lumens from X2 AAA batteries. Previous generations of this light were found to drain over time due to this circuitry.
Fifth, it is made in the USA (Near Princeton, NJ to be precise)!
I've used this as my primary headlamp on most of my backpacking trips and have never been let down. I would highly recommend it!

I have a few of these lights and they are all the same. Lightweight, bright, and great quality for the price but drains battery. Only put batteries in when in use and remove when turned off.
