My women's Rab Ignition 3 arrived for me to review just in time to throw it into my car for a climbing trip to Wyoming. Full disclosure: I am a car camper! In another life I did a ton of backpacking, but for the past five years it's been climbing and car camping. My last synthetic bag was a Cat's Meow that I bought at least eight years ago and beat up long ago, so I was excited to have a new one that keeps its loft!
Testing:
During this trip, I slept on couches, my car, a truck, and a tent. As it was the middle of July, I didn’t test the colder limit of the temperature rating, but I was pleasantly surprised by the range of warmer temperatures that I was able to use this bag in complete comfort. I also camped in the Big Horns at about 9500 ft., where the temperature dropped to the mid-30's at night.
Pros:
My favorite and the most striking thing about the bag was its softness. I have to admit — I am a sucker for that kind of thing. The inner lining is so soft and silky that crawling into it every night was a pleasure. And, I love the color (even though I don't care)! Although packability was not my main concern, I was surprised by how well the Ignition 3 packed down. The synthetic fill (Pyrotec 160g) doesn’t feel dense in any way. It’s amazingly light and compressible for its warmth.
