I purchased the Rab Kinetic Alpine 2.0 pants for an up coming trip to Machu Picchu via the Salkantay Trail. I've always been intrigued with the Rab's claim of these pants being waterproof/breathable and a pant that can be worn comfortably all day like a pair of soft shell hiking pants. I'm 5'7", 155 lbs with an athletic build. I ordered a size medium/short. The fit is perfect. I've worn these pants on two occasions so far. One day with a constant rain and the temperature about 44F. The hike was approximately 4 miles. The second day was constant drizzle with on and off rain throughout and temperatures again in the mid 40F. This hike was about 4 miles. The pants performed superbly! The pants stretch in all directions which makes them very comfortable and never constricting. I worn a pair of running shorts underneath the pants and never felt clammy, sweaty, or uncomfortable. The pants kept me completely dry and the rain beaded off the pants very nicely. Thus far these pants are the real deal. The pants have zip front pockets, a built in belt that does a pretty good job, and zippered leg cuffs that are really for accommodating wide boots. Not for putting on the pants with shoes on. The only question that remains is how these pants will perform in warmer temperatures. For now though, these pants have done everything they claim to do, which is really impressive. Good job Rab! Cheers!
Pros:
Waterproof, breathable, great fit
Cons:
Need longer leg zipper to pull on pants with shoes on.
Best Used for:
Wet weather hiking, Dry weather hiking (?)
Would recommend: Yes
