ShoelessJimboJim's Review of Rab Kinetic Plus Jacket - Men's

First off, buy up one size. I wear a men's large in everything I own, but I did research on this one and followed what others said and bought a size up...definitely the way to go here. This jacket is all about keeping the weight down and it totally succeeds in that. You literally can barely feel that you're wearing it! It's crazy really.

The RAB Proflex material in this jacket is unlike anything else I've come across. It's stretchy, super, super lightweight (without being see through or too thin), highly breathable and waterproof to 10,000mm.

Only has two handpockets and no interior pockets. No waistcord cinch (but I found the coat to fit my waist perfectly as is) and the hood is only very slightly adjustable with a tiny bit of velcro in the back. The wrists cinch via tiny velcro pieces too. No pit zips for venting.

The two hand pocket zippers are super basic and are like paracord only. The main waterproof zipper is reversed from usual (which I find annoying but not that big of a deal...maybe the only thing I'd change) and has a sturdier plastic handle/zip.

The other strange thing is it comes with a stuff sack to make it packable, but the stuff sack is not attached to the jacket. Weird...it doesn't pack into itself, it packs into the completely separate stuff sack that you can keep in the pocket if you want or just leave it at home or in the car.

This sucker is my go to for hiking in cooler/wet situations. It can serve as a shell, just understand that with only 2 pockets, your storage space is limited. If you want ridiculous lightness, breathability, decent waterproofing, and a neat hood that has the face bill/lid, go for it, just remember to size up one.

And good luck finding this on sale. This is a difficult jacket to find in person and it almost never shows up on Ebay. I found that some online retailers are also limited in colors. I rocked this sucker here at Campsaver for 151.84 on sale shipped and I wish I'd bought one for my wife at that time, just after Black Friday. She loves my jacket and steals it whenever she can!

I got the burgandy color (I'm sick of blue and grey jackets in my quiver) and love it. So does wifey.
