Perfect Shorts
I have been wearing Royal Robbins backcountry shorts exclusively for years. They wear like iron (the ones I have from 10 years ago are hard to tell from the more recent ones). In fact, the only reason I'm having to buy more is because I've lost weight and need a smaller size. The fabric is lightweight and quick drying which makes them ideal for camping and hiking as well as kayaking. I consider these the perfect length as well - not too long, not too short. I love all of the pockets...plenty of room to stash all of the things I need for a short walk or hike, or for a day around the campsite. The front pockets are especially deep, so I don't have to worry about things falling out.

Favorite shorts
These are by far my favorite shorts, I hope they never stop making them. I bought my first pair 13 years ago when I was preparing for a section hike on the AT with my son and they still look like new. They are very lightweight, great to pack, have multiple large pockets ,and come in many colors. I also like it that the legs are roomy and not too long , length is just right for me. The waist has adjustable tabs. I wear these shorts everyday in the summer, they are great for gardening also with their many pockets. I also use these for water sports as they dry very quickly. I think I have every color ever made. I have found that the styles change a bit year to year, probably to update them.

Royal Robbins Backcountry Short - Womens
The short is nice, the material looks durable, but the size 4 I bought is bigger than the usual size. I returned the size 4 and changed to size 2. I normally wear size 4, but not for this brand. The pocket design is good. I like the side pockets, they are very deep and secure.

Great shorts!
I have several pair of these shorts. They have several deep pockets, some with Velcro closures, that easily hold my iPhone as well as other items. They look good whether I'm hiking or around town.
