Reviews & Ratings for Salewa Firetail EVO Mid GTX Hiking Boot - Womens
— 7 reviews — Page 1
These boots were so comfortable out of the box it felt like I’d already owned them for a year. Not sure how they do it. They must have a staff of people who’s job it is to put on all the shoes and walk a few miles around a track before they send them out for sale. Nice wide toe box as is typical of Keen. They are a little heavier than the other Keen boot model I was looking at, but I wanted sturdy, and that they are. So far so good. Hiked over a high pass the other day for about 5 miles. I’ve done flat hiking as well. Some mud, Some snow. So far so good.

Bought these after trying on about 50 pairs of shoes and boots trying to find the perfect 14er companion. I returned shoes that were too light duty and hefty boots that were overkill. I saw these and got a feeling. I took a chance and ordered them without trying them on. I got my normal size 8. The boots are super comfortable. I could have gone with the 7.5 but I like that the toe box is a little long to allow for swelling and steep downhill hiking.

As a geologist, I do a lot of field work which involves hiking on rough terrain. I've never found a pair of hiking boots that last more than a year, and I wanted so badly for these to be those hiking boots, but they unfortunately didn't make it for me. While the soles didn't peel off of these hiking boots like all my other boots in the past, the rest of the boot got holes in them! The part that covers your foot itself is made of a more cloth like material that rips and tears extremely easily, making your boots holey and no longer waterproof. They do fit very snug, coming from someone with a wide foot, but I expected that. Unfortunately, with a shoe insert, they were uncomfortably snug the first few hikes. They break in just like any other boots though, so the narrowness wasn't a huge problem. The sole is great! Love vibram soles. And these shoes were absolutely stunning. Too bad the rest of the boot isn't durable
Pros:
good ankle support
Aesthetically pleasing
Durable soles
Cons:
narrow
Nondurable shoe
Best Used for:
hiking on trails
NOT rocky terrain

Great pair of hiking shoes although I have not tried them on the trails.. probably great for regular trails but not sure if it will be good for climbing scree or loose rock.Has good ankle support. Fit is great! I do have narrow, slender feet. Not sure how it works for those with wider feet
Pros:
Great Fit
Cons:
Unsure if this will work well for scree or loose rock
