If you're looking for one boot to do just about everything then this will not disappoint. I'll start with the only negative I have - The use of nylon loops at the top to secure the laces vs the traditional 'hooks'. Makes getting the boots on and off a little bit more of a process and the only reason I can see doing this is to shave production cost, as the added weight of metal hooks is negligible.
I'm still giving 5 stars despite the above comment because they perform in every other aspect that matters. I've put over 100 miles on them after owning for a few months so I can pretty confidently endorse the quality after some wear-in. I'm mostly doing 4-10 mile wet winter hikes in the cascades without much of a load. I loved the look of these blacked-out version and they look great in person too. A perfect blend of an approach shoe and alpine boot, the Salewa Trooper is another model that will hold up on the roughest of trails and in the harshest of conditions. Featuring a protective rand that wraps around the whole lowers section of the boot, this total isolation from any terrain makes this boot a must have if you are planning on hiking off trail.
