Not a mountaineer, but wanted bombproof boots for working on my property on snowy hills, rocks, trees, rain, mud, shallow water, and recreational snowshoeing. Hiking boots were out of the question due to lack of warmth and durability in winter conditions. My last pair were a pair of North Face Chillkats which lasted almost 12 years and now held together with duct tape. I beat the snot out of regular snow boots, so after doing tremendous research, the legendary Scarpa Mantas were a nice combo of hiking and technical mountaineering boot. They are expensive but I was willing to pay more for durability, weatherproofing, and warmth. I'll most likely never put a pair of crampons on these but appreciate the solid foundation and protection these boots provide. I kinda like how they look too, at least compared to some of the other styles in this category.
They were hard to find, so thank you campsaver.com for not only having a pair in my size in stock but also providing them at the best price with 20% off! I also called the customer service line, and although I forgot the gentleman's name who assisted in my purchase, he was very knowledgeable and personable in answering all of my questions about the boots and my order.
I'll provide an update if they don't last me at least 10-20 years.
Pros:
durable
Cons:
pricey
Best Used for:
Light mountaineering
