Lightweight and a good part of a wetness reduction strategy

I ordered the lime green version as it blends in the outdoor environment better. I suppose if you want to be seen you'd pick the blue version. It's light (~ 5 ounces) and cuts down on moisture buildup. But you've got to be realistic, it won't keep you entirely dry if you are hiking as your lower arms will get wet and potentially the water will work it's way up your arm if you are using hiking poles. In cold weather hiking, I'll pair this with a rain jacket and likely rain pants. In this case it will lessen the chance of cold/wet induced hypothermia. But in that situation you need to focus on sweat management too. For me that means opening your pit zips on your rain coat and moving more slowly. In warm weather I can use this with or without a rain jacket. In that scenario I'll typically NOT use rain pants as they create a big sweating problem - but if it's on the cool side use a Rain Kilt. If it's really warm then I'll just keep my shorts on and nothing else. Overall a good add to my kit and can be a lifesaver in cold wet weather.
Pros:
  • Light, well made, reduces wetness
Cons:
  • Can add to your sweating
Best Used for:
  • HIKING
