Reviews & Ratings for Sierra Designs High Side Tents - 1 Person

I have only recently received the Sierra Designs High Side Tent, and set it up only once in the backyard. It's still too early in Central PA to enjoy backpacking, so I haven't field tested it yet. Maybe in April. It was a little more complicated to set up than my other Sierra Designs tent (Pole Sleeve Flashlight two-person), but I wanted something lighter for one person since my wife has retired from backpacking. I made my own 4-mil plastic footprint, and found the total weight of the High Side Tent counting stuff sack, tent, fly, poles, stakes, rope, and footprint to be 2.80 pounds, or 44.80 ounces, or 2 pounds 13 ounces, or 1,270 grams. That's 65% of the Pole Sleeve Flashlight. In addition to a weight savings, the High Side has a vestibule that the Flashlight does not. It is definitely a one-person tent, so there should be no surprise that shedding weight normally means shedding space. It provides enough room for my full-size sleeping pad and a little gear, but not too much more. I don't get the feeling that I have to leave the tent to change my mind, or that there is too little room for another idea once I am in the tent. But neither is it really spacious. In summary, I think I will enjoy the High Side tent this season. There are at least a half-dozen YouTube reviews of the High Side that I encourage buyers to watch.
