James B.'s Review of Trangia 25-2 Ultralight Outdoor Stove

This is the second time I have bought this model, the first being 30 years ago. I gave that one to a family member. A change of heart saw me buy again. This version is lighter than the first and has the option of using various other attachments for fuel.
However, the beauty of this stove has always been its simplicity. It always works. It is absolutely wind proof. It is stable and is the only stove that I have ever dared to use in a tent, as the outside shell does not get hot enough to melt anything. Not that I recommend the practice.
In cold conditions it can be hard to persuade meths to light. I recommend filling the burner, putting the lid back on, and putting it in your armpit for five minutes to get it vapourising. It would be interesting to see how the cold weather attachment works as it too uses meths. Perhaps a chip of solid fuel.
I bought the basic non anodised model as I have a fear of coatings cracking. At least the bare metal stays the same regardless.
The fuel bottle and the cutting board are inventions of sheer genius.
I would recommend these stoves for school camps outings. Kids can wreck anything, of course, but they are not going to blow themselves up with this stove, and it is very easy to repair or get replacement parts.
