Used these new boots right out of the box for winter hiking. Trail was snow covered ice and snow covered rocks. Great traction on rocks, even when the soles were wet, and on the ice. My jeans were soaked at the hem, my feet were completely dry! Very comfortable, no blisters or rubs, even without breaking them in. Great pair of boots. Am planning to use these on a 26 mile hike on the Inca Trail to
