A lot of these so called swallow tail snowboards are just a cut in an otherwise similar early rise tail. That’s not a true swallow tail. A true swallow tail like this Japow gives you a completely different feeling in powder. The ease that’s created from the tail sinking and the nose rising in the pow is something you have to feel to understand. You can really feel it on this board. Glad they had the stones to make such an uncompromising swallow tail.

Incredible board! Rode this board all of last winter on a multi-month tour of Hokkaido and could not be happier with my purchase. The Japow floats effortlessly in the deep snow with its large nose and swallowtail design. There were times I was literally waist deep and still felt I had great responsiveness from this surfy board. I bought this board primarily to use in the backcountry and was very surprised how effective it actually was. I had no issue adjusting my skins or traversing areas with limited contact area on the board. I also rode it several times at the resort and found it to be just as fun and responsive. Obviously a little heavier due to the added weight from being a split, I wouldn't make it my regular resort board, but works great if it's my only option. An absolutely stellar board I would recommend to anyone in a solid or split depending on what you intend to use it for.
Pros:
great feel
great look
good company
Cons:
NONE
Best Used for:
Backcountry
Deep Powder
Would recommend: Yes

I was a little weary about getting a full on swallow tail, but these guys have been making sweet boards for a while and the Japow has received some great reviews. I bought it and was very surprised how versatile it was! It is camber so it rails turns and slays groomers, then in pow it like it disappears! This is what snowboarding si supposed to be. I can ride pow from first to last chair now and leave everyone on twins in the dust. Super stoked on this board. If you are in the BC to ride deep pow and dont really ride switch do youself a favor and pick up the japow split. I use g3 tail clips on my skins too - little tip.
Pros:
amazing float
rails turns
babes love it
bros jealous
tailweighted!!! so smart
Cons:
your friends will try to borrow it all the time...
Best Used for:
powder!!!
