The Ropeman 1 has been one of the most popular mechanical Prusiks for over 10 years. It's been used by hunters, arborists, and climbers alike for an ascender/back up safety device. It is extremely light weight and compact. One of the downsides is its limited rope range. It is rated for ropes between 10 mm up to 13 mm. It has an aluminum cam, compared to the newer Ropeman 2, which has a stainless steel cam. The Ropeman 2 has a much wider rope diameter range from 8 mm to 13 mm. Both products are excellent progress capture devices. If you need a light weight ascender/back up device on 10 mm to 13 mm rope, then the Ropeman MK1F would be a great choice.
Best Used for:
- Progress capture/ascending

I had purchased a Ropeman 2 prior for emergency situation but didn’t realize that they will essentially eat your rope up. The Ropeman one does the job without the damage The device is light and durable and takes up little space in your kit. A must have for muti-pitch adventures!
Cons:
- Less secure then Ropeman 2.

I bought this to use instead of the prusik knot for my tether on my saddle, for hunting. Works awesome, super easy to use, and much bettert hen sliding the know up and down. I'll honestly probably get one for my lineman as well.

I bought the Ascender to supplement some safety gear I have for hunting out of tree stands - equipment like this is considerably more durable and LIGHT compared to many items available within the "hunting" gear section of most stores. I would encourage other hunters looking to lighten the pack weight of their fall protection gear to look at this Ascender as another option for a do-it-yourself lineman's belt, or as a rope grab alternative to the Prusik knot.
