Big and definitely mighty - Yeti Tundra Haul Wheeled Hard Cooler

MRW's Review of Yeti Tundra Haul Wheeled Hard Cooler
First a note on the retailer, Campsaver. I also give them 5 stars at every touchpoint. My first time using them. The selection is insane, I had a question that was immediately answered by a really helpful individual (Trevon), and the cooler showed up so quickly. Thanks for an excellent experience.
Ok, the cooler. I bought a different Yeti cooler about a year ago for road trips with my wife - it was wildly more expensive than I was planning on spending, but all reviews pointed to it being the 'best' brand and I wanted something that I could trust and that would last (because having to replace is annoying and also wasteful). It was a Tundra 35, and it has been all I was hoping for and more. So, when I wanted to buy a cooler for a friend that lets a bunch of us use his lake house in Southern California, I spent 10% of my time researching other brands, but then 90% just figuring out which Yeti model would be the best. It twas the Tundra Haul.
Right out of the box, it's clear this thing is hearty. Every component just feels indestructible. The first thing you notice is it is heavy. I believe it's a hair over 30 lbs. Like my 35, it's due to the amount of insulation, which is why it's so crazy effective. But just know it's heavy before you buy it - this is a 1-person job to wheel it as far as the eyes can see, but fully loaded it takes 1-really-strong-person or, more easily, 2 people. And pick a color you like because this cooler is going to last you a long, long time.
The handle is very comfortable and allows you to easily lift and carry a heavy load. It's smooth as butter when pulling it. The molded in handles on the side are deep and easy to grip, even with wet hands. At first I was surprised they didn't add roped handles like the other models, but the benefit doesn't justify the added weight given these handles work perfectly fine and the cooler is already pretty heavy.
The space inside is hardly impacted by the wheels which surprised me a bit. Space for a full 3-day weekend of drinks or food. And the ice will definitely last that long.
If you're reading this, you've likely read the other highlights:
- The closure latches are easy and really sturdy, easy to use when hands are wet.
- The ability to use tie down straps to secure it in your trunk or on a boat are really easy to use (and I'm sure Campsaver sells those too).
- It's an incredibly sturdy platform to stand or sit on - this one is big enough to sit two people.
- You can easily lock the cooler by putting a lock through small holes at the corner (lock not included). Really important when camping in bear-heavy California.
- There is also a really small accessory that lets you lock the cooler to a tree or something else if you need to leave it at a campsite or on a boat.
Like all coolers, pre-chill it with ice before you use it. To me, it feels like Yeti's take a bit more to chill because of the thick insulation, but it pays off 10x with how long it stays cold.
In sum:
1. Incredible quality and long-term chilling capability
2. Easy to pull long distances and uneven terrain
3. It's heavy - bring a friend if you need to lift it when fully loaded
4. It's an investment - expensive, but will last a long time
Pros:
QUALITY
Functionality
dependability
Cons:
Expensive
