I wouldn't say anyone needs this product but if you have the space in your kitchen, then it's nice to have. The colander nests inside the bowl, both are a little shallow. I haven't had it long, but found it's good for preparing potatoes, using the colander to rinse and then soak them in the colander while nestled in bowl with water, lifting them out with the colander is easy. We used this as a cheese and appetizer plate last night, then flipped it over and used it for pizzas. Love it.
The wood is quality and the 2 plates fit well together. Quality I have come to expect from Snow Peak.
