Haven't tried it in the mountains yet but I can say one thing for sure...it HAS to be warm! Own a Marmot Down Parka that in fairness was half the cost but it has 650 down fill and was not cheap. Was in sub-zero temps in the mountains last January and I was disappointingly cold. Tried on the Absolute Zero and it is the SAME weight as the Marmot, 800 down fill, what looks and fee... Read more

Why get a jacket that is supposedly so warm? Well I live in Northern MN and ice fish on Canadian border lakes where the temps dip to -30F and the wind can make the wind chill drop to -50F. This is the jacket that gives me the most peace of mind. I walk for hours in the wind and rain, or ride a motorcycle. I never get wet. All the zippers are square water, and the pockets are also waterproof. A jacket full of sincerity
This jacket keeps you warm but takes up a lot of space in any backpack and is major big and puffy when you are wearing it. Overly cumbersome when wearing. Weather must be very ugly before there is a need for a jacket like this.
