A fully featured hybrid-shell bib built for skiers and climbers whose alpine to-do list can't be hampered by foul conditions, the Black Diamond Dawn Patrol Hybrid Bib combines the flexibility of a softshell pant with the weather protection of a hardshell bib. Large Schoeller stretch-woven panels and a gusseted construction allow for complete freedom of movement on the skin track or booting a couloir, while three-layer, body-mapped waterproof panels protect against wetness on sunny days and blower descents. An integrated RECCO system complements your avalanche safety gear, and the large, two-way side zippers aid entry and double as vents. A large reinforced kickpatch deflects ski edges and crampon points, while the integrated snow gaiter seals out the elements.

I bought these to replace a pair of Arcteryx hard shell bibs that were just too long and tight through the rib cage. The softshell on the DPH is stretchy and comfortable, while still being slim fit. I'm 5'8" 180lbs with a very athletic build and these fit like a glove. Can't comment on performance as yet; I'll try them out in Taos in a few weeks.

I have tested these pants out on some 14ers in colorado this winter, and with decent fleece pants as a baselayer, they stood up to some gnarly weather. Breathes excellent. Got them after my climbing partner had them last season. Would recommend them to anyone who is into alpine style climbing. These are the best soft shell pants I've ever owned, and I own a dozen. These are hybrid softshell pants, with hard shell material in critical areas. Lightweight, highly breathable, non insulated means these can be worn 90% of the time outdoors. Only need a hard shell for hard rain/snow, insulation layer for below freezing.

This item is built as a shell and should accommodate a few layers under it no problem. This product does have a slimmer fit, so if you are planning on putting a lot of layers under it then I would suggest going up a size, otherwise you should be fine with the medium.

They start at the thigh and go down to the bottom of the pant. It is a double zipper, so you can zip it up from the bottom or down from the thigh as a vent.
