New for the Crown3 is the optional add-on capability of reinforcing the frame sheet with a U-shaped aluminum stay for treks that require base weights north of 35lbs (sold separately). The stay increased the load capacity by 8.3lbs. Slide the rod thru the pass-through channels to lock the rod into place. Weight: 2.6oz

I wish this item came included with the pack. The stay is very light adding to the crown 3 backpack light system. The stay isnt a complete rectangle minimizing its added strength but a horseshoe shape. It fits well in the premade place already in the pack frame.

Easy to install, provides a nice stiffening to the plastic support found in the pack. Have not added enough weight to pack yet to detect differences in carry capacity with the aluminum stay, but I expect the claim of stay allowing for an extra 8 lbs to be added to be true just on how it stiffens the plastic support top to bottom and across the pack.
