The Gregory Maven 45 Pack is one of my favorites. I love it because it is big enough to pack for an overnight backpacking trip, but also small enough for a day hike if I wanted. Gregory is more than 1 kg lighter than Deuter which made for quite a difference. When you have the two packs next to each other, you can see right away where it comes from. Deuter is made of thick, durable fabric that will serve me for ages. Gregory’s walls are made of a much thinner and delicate-looking material.

I was thrilled to find a pack that had (I thought) the combination of size and features I wanted for winter hikes/snowshoes or quick summer overnights. The Maven 45 seemed to fit the bill, but the specs are not correct as multiple features are not available in the smaller 2 sizes. Specifically:
