This is a great all around jacket. I moved close to the mountains and bought it at the end of the winter season, thinking I wouldn't get much use out of it until next winter - I was wrong. I used it weekly, especially at night time when the temperatures dipped and it was easy to pack in a backpack for trekking excursions.
The Marmot Venus is like wearing a cloud - soft and comfortable. I bought it last fall and was comfortable in temps ranging in the 60's. It was not too warm, but seemed to adjust to my body temp. Just got back from backpacking in the Sierra's with low's from 8-15 degrees and it snowed most of the trip. This jacket got me through - used in conjunction with mid-weight thermal, fleece jacket and shell. I had plenty of room under the down to add up to three layers.
