The Osprey Raptor 6 is great for that after work spin on the local single track. It will carry all your essentials, including basic bike tools and a stretch woven front pocket will carry an extra layer. 2L hydration bladder included.

This is a really well-designed hydration pack and makes really good use of space. The lower straps are wide enough and padded enough that they can be snugged into place so the pack doesn't bounce and slide all over when cycling off road. Love the pack. The pockets are well thought out and sturdy. Love the tool pouch.
Not a big fan of the bladder. Too heavy, hard to clean, and already got a hole in it from ice in the bladder apparently.
I really love osprey packs.
I use this bag as a daypack for mountaineering and thus I am required to carry survival gear ("the ten essentials") as well as minimal rain protection and insulation clothing. Although my stuff does fit in the pack, it does so barely - this despite having an ultralight philosophy to my gear.
