Patagonia's Powderbowl Pants have a rugged 2-layer polyester shell that's bonded to a GORE-TEX membrane using GORE-TEX Performance Shell technology for the highest level of waterproof/breathable performance available. A DWR (durable water repellent) finish prevents saturation and increases abrasion-resistance.

I trust the Patagonia brand implicitly so have only the highest expectations for these pants. The price was pretty ridiculous so I pretty much HAD to buy them. Worst case scenario I'd give them as a gift. Got these along with the Powder Bowl Jacket. The pants are really great. Patagonia's size chart is spot on. Really love the outside vents. Super dry, the taped zippers seem to hold up really well, too! The gaiters don't have a lace hook on them, but it doesn't really bother me. I snowboard with Boa lace boots so I usually keep the gaiters up pretty high to access the Boa coiler... Read more
It does stated that it is waterproof/breathable however to an extent I am sure. For most rainy and snowy conditions it should hold out but I think if you went swimming or had to wade across a river eventually water would get in.
