So according to Lowa's sizing chart, a women's 8.5 will be the equivalent of an mens 8. As for mens vs. womens shoes-- typically women's shoes are slightly narrower because (on a general basis), women have more slender feet than men. However, this is not a hard fast rule, and everyone's feet are different. Beyond the fit, the overall quality should be similar.
