Andrew C.'s Review of Arc'teryx Gamma AR Pant - Men's

These pants are the next best thing. I compare the material and quality to the Crye Precision Weather Resistant pants. I'm 6'4" and a lengthy 240lbs and the XL talls (36-39" waist) fit very well in length (no floods here) and slightly big in the waist compared to...say... Eddie Bauer khakis with a 36inch waiste. Nothing you can't sinch up with the belt strap or fill in with a warm base layer though. I'd say these pants are pretty ideal. When you're really going, this stretch fabric sets you free. Bro, you could do yoga in these. These are also way comfortable under a large backpack hip belt. No pinching or skin indentations as with regular pants and belt combo. Very breathable too. The only mark down is you can't have all these features in a true fully waterproof pant. They will hold out quite well in light rain though... Not much coming in for the first 30 minutes of walking an open cut trail...with no sitting.... Most of the water will simply bead off. Then slight dampness inside. I was impressed though, I thought they would really wet out once I got to the 60-90 minute range in the same light rain. However, they never seamed to carry too much water in the fabric as if they were drying at almost the rate they were getting wet. It was 55°F that day. If it's pouring and 40°F these are more of a "get you to camp or car" type of pant. I know Arcteryx must be working on some top secret pair of PERFECT pants that only the world's leaders can order... But for now, I'm happy at $160 for these.
