nice size and weight

Written on Jun 04, 2016

So far I have had this out 3 nights and it has met all expectations. The highlights of this tent are:
-Campsaver gave me a smoking deal at $360 for tent PLUS the footprint. I had been seeing tent only for $400 on other sites. (June 3, 2016)
-The size to weight ratio... excellent space inside for a couple and a large pup. I'm 6'4" and don't contact any wall surfaces while sleeping and rolling around. Great measurements all around and very vertical walls.
-Two doors makes things easier with your camp mate and increases airflow during hot days. (An important note when compared to the slightly lighter fly Creek ul3
-The ease of setup. This is by far and away the easiest style of tent to set up. A seven year old who enjoys Legos could set this thing up in 10 minutes or less. It simply does not get easier than this.

Just know you are buying an ultralight tent. Everything looks and feels well made but the materials are thin intentionally. Unfortunately my pup had to run over the tent when we were setting up and one of his sharp toenails must have pierced the mesh window. I'll get it stitched up and get the pup back to obedience training...

One last note... If weight is really on your mind, I believe the 2 person would still be comfy. The ul3 is impressively large. Very nice to have the space while waiting out rain showers. LNT.

The perfect pants haven't been invented yet...

These pants are the next best thing. I compare the material and quality to the Crye Precision Weather Resistant pants. I'm 6'4" and a lengthy 240lbs and the XL talls (36-39" waist) fit very well in length (no floods here) and slightly big in the waist compared to...say... Eddie Bauer khakis with a 36inch waiste. Nothing you can't sinch up with the belt strap or fill in with a warm base layer though. I'd say these pants are pretty ideal. When you're really going, this stretch fabric sets you free. Bro, you could do yoga in these. These are also way comfortable under a large backpack hip belt. No pinching or skin indentations as with regular pants and belt combo. Very breathable too. The only mark down is you can't have all these features in a true fully waterproof pant. They will hold out quite well in light rain though... Not much coming in for the first 30 minutes of walking an open cut trail...with no sitting.... Most of the water will simply bead off. Then slight dampness inside. I was impressed though, I thought they would really wet out once I got to the 60-90 minute range in the same light rain. However, they never seamed to carry too much water in the fabric as if they were drying at almost the rate they were getting wet. It was 55°F that day. If it's pouring and 40°F these are more of a "get you to camp or car" type of pant. I know Arcteryx must be working on some top secret pair of PERFECT pants that only the world's leaders can order... But for now, I'm happy at $16
