Walt P's Review of Arc'teryx Bora2 Leather Mid GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

I wanted to get this boot for a couple reasons. 1. You could remove bootie and go through stream crossings with the main body of boot(found out this has mesh padding around the ankle, so it gets wet if you do this, it would not happen on the non-leather version). 2. Have a camp shoe once you get to camp. I have used both these features and love each of them, but pointed out why the non-leather might be better for option 1. However, the thing that blew me away was how comfortable they are. I have owned Hi-Tec boots, multiple pairs of Vasque's(which fit me pretty well), and Aku. I have enjoyed most of my vasque's for fit, but the break in time for my Vasque Wasatch was ridiculous(I got them back in 2010, and just now are they feeling truly broken in). These however felt broken in the first time I used them, and by far are my most favorite boot. The only complaints I could give about them are: 1. When you tighten them to get going, the way they are designed with the bootie, you will loosen the fit a little bit, so needing readjustment most times when headed down the trail. 2. There seems to be not the typical amount of padding underneath the heel of the foot. I have talked to somebody else who has them and noticed the same thing, I don't know if it just gets packed out faster or if it is different material then most. It really isn't noticeable unless you have a 45+ lbs pack or hike for extended durations, like 8+ miles. But, the tradeoffs far outweigh the alternatives.
