Beach Camping at Assateague

by Wutz, from RI, United States Written on September 24, 2022
Reason for purchase: standing height. Versatility of shelter mode vs full tent with rainfly and option of canopy for sun protection. Wanted a 2-3P tent but no 2-3P tents exist with standing height. Be careful as dimensions given for footprint is tent only. Vestibule will take more space and this tent may not fit on a small tent site. It was very spacious for one cot and one mattress in either side with bags of clothes at end of “bed” and middle open for standing/walking/ changing clothes. Would be good for three mattresses. Tent held up in strong winds at beach. We used heavy duty sand stakes. It was very humid and condensation on outside as well as inside the tent when fly is closed. Tent has no vent on top which I think it should have two. Especially when it’s colder and you want to close doors. With open doors ventilation was good. Gear pockets are nice. Also you can string a guy line from ceiling to hang stuff. The vestibule sides need another loop in middle bottom for stake. Wind ripped side out of stake and strong winds kept it billowing. It was hard to keep it secured. The back door can be opened. However it needs another loop tie to keep it tucked away. Again strong winds being the issue. Storing it back in backpack style bag was ok. Bag was much bigger than when factory packed. Why is there no bag for the stakes? I was able to set up by myself (5”4’ female) in about 45 min. Better to do it with another person. Would be incredible if one could use the shelter mode a...

BIG Agnes Bunk House 4

by Desert Cam, from CA, United States Written on April 15, 2022
This is a major upgrade for for my camping needs!
I haven't had a new tent in over a decade, so getting this Bunk House 4, with footprint, tie-down bags, and gear lofts, total weighing about half of
any of my other tents, is a big plus.
I love the 'backpack' concept, where the tent and accessories fit in its own backpack.

Things I love about the Bunkhouse 4:
Easy to set up
Plenty of space and comfortable for MY needs
Large front vestibule, smaller back vestibule
Weatherproof
Fly can be used as a freestanding sunshade

I bought this Big Agnes because it had all the features I wanted, and by buying the whole package from Camp Saver, I saved a bundle.
I was particularly pleased to be able to get the footprint, the tie-down bags, the gear lofts on one site, instead of having to search online for the accessories.

I got a tremendous deal on a premium tent at Camp Saver, so I'm truly what is called a "Happy Camper"!
Pros:
  • See my list
Cons:
  • NONE
Best Used for:
  • Car camping, extended camping
