Dean D.'s Review of Big Agnes Insulated AXL Air Sleeping Pad
I've had this pad in the 78"x25" size for 2 years. It's about 3.25 inches thick, very comfortable and very light. Worked fine for the first year, used about 6 times. I loved it. This year I had my daughter sleep on it for a backpacking trip. Went flat after a few hours. Slow leak, couldn't tell where it was leaking. Ruined our trip. I slept on a 15 year old Exped Synmat Deluxe 9 that I've used over 30 times, no problem. Tragic. This Big Agnes only weighed a pound, comfortable, but if it doesn't hold air it doesn't matter. The old Exped pad is over twice the weight but it lasts, no leaks. I now question the ultralight pads. Give me the thick 75d polyester. I don't have the energy to chase leaks when I am 10 miles from the car after hiking all day. I'll bear the extra weight for a non-leaker.
Pros:
Light and comfortable
Cons:
leaks
Best Used for:
One year
