Ultimate Comfort In The Backcountry

by Jordan, Gear Expert from UT, United States Written on October 1, 2019
Whenever I go backpacking a chair like this is a must have. There is nothing like leaning back and relaxing after setting up camp for the night and enjoying a meal and the view. The Big Agnes Skyline is one of the best chairs I have used and comes in a little lighter and more packable than the Helinox Chair One. Do yourself a favor and snag one of these for your next trip. Your feet will thank you.

I have a mayfly chair but since that purchase my knees have changed. It happens y'all will see one day. This is my first BA product and I'm stoked. The mayfly is awfully comfortable but low to the ground which made getting out of it a bit difficult but did provide a good bit of amusement for those fortunate enough to witness my dechairing procedure. This chair rocks, it's high enough so I can disembark comfortably, light enough so I don't mind bringing it along, and its strong. Surprisingly strong.

Perfect solution

by michael, from NV, United States Written on March 10, 2023
I think carting a chair is worth the weight! This chair is 1.6 lbs what made this an easy decision over competitors is the height of the chair. You can get up and down out of the chair so much easier. It is also very stable not flimsy. I love this purchase and highly recommend to all my friends.
Pros:
  • Height-stable
Cons:
  • Not 1 lb

Best backpacking chair yet.

by Mindrambler, from UT, United States Written on January 3, 2023
At 62 I am finding it a bit more difficult to get in and out of my Helinox Ground Chair. This chair weighs just a bit more and is worth it. Much more comfortable. My only complaint is Big Agnes doesn't plan on offering a sand mat so I bought a Helinox Chair One Large mat. It is a very tight fit but, it works.
Pros:
  • No plastic hubs. Stronger. More comfortable.
Cons:
  • No sand mat.
Best Used for:
  • Backpacking

Great chair for camping or the beach. We have two (yellow and blue). Easy to assemble and disassemble. Great color and price point. Cheaper to buy on website than buying in store. Highly recommend. Thank you

Solid, light chair

by Gold Eagle, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on September 21, 2022
I'm happy with this chair--much simpler to put together than it's larger cousin, although I'm not throwing shade! This chair is good for shorter backpacking trips. I'm 5' 8'' and it fits me pretty well.

  • Backpacking

Worth the weight penalty for comfort!!

by kstephens, from KY, United States Written on September 6, 2022
I previously had a lighter chair, that never felt stable with me ( 6'4 over 230#) - this feels like a lazy boy in comparison with a small weight penalty. I love it - it really fits taller frames MUCH better.

How low can you go?

by Bionic Knees, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on April 22, 2022
That is the question. After having both knees replaced, I was looking for a backpack-able chair that wasn't too low to the ground. The "new" knees don't bend quite as well as the old ones did.
This chair works as long as you have a hard surface to set it on, or on top of a chair "footprint". Really simple to set up, even when altitude can make the brain a bit fuzzy. Very strong and easily handles my 200 lbs. Because my quad strength is still on its way back to normal, I stand up from the chair by pushing up with my hands: one on a front corner and the other on the opposite rear corner. For weight watchers, the chair in its bag was 1 Lb 12 oz. on my digital scale.
Pros:
  • Light & comfortable
  • High quality , good design
Cons:
  • Legs dig into soft ground but there are accessories to fix that
Best Used for:
  • Backpacking

Great lightweight chair

by Joe Norman, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on December 17, 2020
Chair is Really sturdy for size and weight! Nice that its 15 inches of the ground easy to get out of! Great chair for backpacking a little heavier then some but worth the extra ounces for the durability and quality materials!

Skyline UL chair

by Mike, from NM, United States Written on December 8, 2020
I wanted a light weight folding chair to take on a hiking trip next summer. REI just came out with a 1 pound chair, but when I tried it out, it was so low I had to get on my knees and roll into the chair. The Skyline is all metal, no plastic joints, sets up,fast, and is high enough to sit down in from a standing position. Comfy too.
Pros:
  • Color
  • seat height
  • all metal joints
Cons:
  • Not as light as REI
Best Used for:
  • Camping
  • Hiking & Backpacking

A well designed piece of gear

by RGM, from CA, United States Written on November 21, 2020
I love this chair. It's not the absolute lightest one out there, but its ease of assembly, stability, and the high degree of seating comfort it provides more than make up for the few extra ounces. Disassembled, it's a very compact cylinder that easily fits in a crowded pack. Assembly is easy and intuitive. After you've assembled it once, you could do it in the dark. Unlike other chairs, you're not too low to the ground and the legs are set in such a way that you enjoy perfect stability.. All good. I definitely recommend it.
Pros:
  • ease of assembly, stability, seating comfort
Cons:
  • a few ounces heavier than the lightest chairs out there
Best Used for:
  • backpacking, car camping, picnics
