Quality Material

Written on Dec 02, 2018

There are many, many ponchos to choose on the Internet! This Sea to Summit Nylon Tarp-Poncho is very good. The 70d material is dense to repel thorns. (70d nylon is alaso used on SeaToSummit's most durable Camp Mat SI sleeping pad.) The material has tacky coating underneath the whole poncho, but the head and hood section has tackier, high gloss coating. The tarp attachment points are durable, thick fabric.

The hood drawstring functions well using the thick, reinforced fabric of the hood bill. The drawstring cradles the face to retain the hood position for consistent visibility. The bad feature about visibility is using the tarp without arms through the side holes of the poncho.

I recommend using the poncho over the backpack to increase ventilation. If using the poncho over a large backpacking-pack without using the arm holes, the poncho can frequently shift while walking. Shifting turns the hood downward and to one side or the other. The picture of the poncho shows it worn underneath the backpack, which may be much easier.

The button snaps sealing the poncho on each side are easily forced undone when moving your arms in and out of the poncho. The buttons require effort and coordination to locate, align, and snap closed.

I recommend this company make attachment points on the poncho to prevent it from shifting during various situations.

Light, Pertex Quantum Jacket

Written on Oct 01, 2018

The fabric says Pertex Quantum. The small is labeled size 46. The arm holes are for narrow arms. The pockets are impressive quality on a wind jacket! The grey "beluga" color is a dark grey. I recommend the small size for 5'8" or shorter.

A plastic snap button to secure the top 1/4 length of the jacket is convenient. The inside pocket has 2 plastic snap buttons and an attachment loop. The hood has a plastic buckle retention strap. The zippers are good.
