Ortovox is by far my favorite brand of active clothing. Build quality is second to none (sorry Arcteryx and Patagonia), their use of natural wool is a big draw, and the features they build into their clothing demonstrates smart design. These pants are no exception, and for skinning they are perfect. Elastic cuffs to keep the snow out; vent zips to dump excess heat; Velcro waist closures; and good zippered pockets for easy access to snacks, phones, etc.... But the star of the show is the lightweight, wind proof but breathable fabric. I own several Ortovox jackets made of the same material, and the performance for aerobic winter activities is unmatched. It keeps me warm but not clammy. I’ll wear these pants on all but the coldest of backcountry days where I may need a little more insulation or protection from high wind. You definitely get what you pay for in Ortovox clothing.
Dynafit always has top quality and features, and this performance hoody does not stray from that formula. Beautiful soft fleece with knitted wrist cuffs. Well sized hand warming pockets, and hood to take off that morning chill. Will be a great spring mountaineering jacket with warmer weather, although the hood isn't really meant to fit over a helmet. Nice zippers too (I've had issues in the past with some dynafit zippers).
I ran across this jacket in Campsaver's outlet, and what a shame this company is no longer in business. It is first rate quality, true to size fit, and very well made with premium materials. For highly aerobic activities, these hybrid style jackets are wonderful....they provide windproof protection in core areas, but breathe well to vent moisture elsewhere. The only change I'd like to see would be the addition of a hood, but I have an Ortovox hybrid with that feature.
As usual, Rab has created a very nicely featured lightweight shell with great performance and high quality construction. It folds up into it's own pocket and stores about the size of a fist. This will always be in my daypack to protect from light showers or wind during warmer months. I haven't tried it in wet weather , but believe that the fabric will live up to stated claims. The only negative is that the arm holes are a little tight in the shoulder, but athletic fits help keep overall weights down.
