I got this on clearance, so I couldn't beat the price. The coolest feature is the crown cinch in the hood that allows me to turn my head and have the hood turn with it. Arms are long, so you can hide your hands; downside is I would normally go a size larger so as to be able to carry a small backpack or a baby in a carrier inside the jacket. As it is, neither of those fit because if I had gone a size larger, the arms would have been way too long. The only other complaint is that the zipper is tight, as can be expected from a water-resistant zipper rather than a storm flap.
I got one pair of MSR Shifts at the end of last winter to see if they'd work well for my girls, who are now 9 and 7. As long as their boots are wide enough (only an issue for the 7-year-old), they'll work well! And they'll last until their quite large. This recent purchase was so they'd both have a pair. Now the whole family can go!
