great pants

Written on Dec 04, 2018

these are the most comfortable hiking pants ever. they seem well made, and durable. they shed water well in light rain or drizzle. they block the wind well. they look good on the trail or at the pub. nice features like vent holes , button fasteners for rolling up legs for water crossing, and stitching that seems durable and comfortable. they have a great warranty. love the like it or your money back from Prana. pants seem true to size. get some.

great socks

Written on Jul 15, 2018

I didn't want to ding the quality of the socks. They are great, so 5 star for the socks. I would give 2 star for the condition they showed up in. I purchased from the outlet, or deals section and got these at a good price, but the socks were filthy, and did not launder clean after two washings. All four pairs of socks I ordered arrived looking like they had been on the floor in a warehouse somewhere. They have some serious dirt on them, which is probably why they were marked down so much. But, they are socks, and it doesn't show when wearing, so I kept the socks.

warm gloves

Written on Jan 11, 2018

seem durable. seem warm. would have given more stars, but the gloves are very bulky. the fingers do not articulate well. hard to grip anything small. very hard to get the gloves on fingers properly. seems like there is an inch of glove past fingertips. you really have to work the glove down each finger. i like the removable liners. really good gloves, just doesn't fit my hand well. not bad enough fit to hassle with returning them. i would recommend the gloves, but it would be best to try them on before purchase if possible. that is the internet shopping world we live in now, i guess.

you wont know you have them on

about the only negatives i can say about this underwear is they cost too much, and there is no fly. they are super comfortable. they dry very quickly when rinsed out, so they're ready to go again in hours. they are super light and very form fitting. being so light may cut both ways, i can't speak to durability yet because they are new, but they seem well made. i've never owned an arcteryx product that wasn't well made. even at this cost, i bought an extra pair. very satisfied.

great boot

Written on Aug 02, 2017

these boots were for my wife. the construction and quality of boot is excellent. sadly, they were returned, for no other reason than the fit. it is so very hard to purchase boots online without being able to try them on beforehand. in her case, the boot felt loose in the heel area. she has a narrow heel, and we were afraid this would cause blisters and or hot spots. a shame really, as these looked to be an excellent boot for the money.

love the stove..hate the fuel pump

Written on Jul 15, 2017

this is a beast of a stove. it burns just about anything and is built like a tank….except the fuel pump. the weakest link in this system is the fuel pump. not like the old metal pumps at all. this new pump looks like it’s all plastic, and not very durable. i think a spare pump along on any trip would be prudent.

good tent

Written on Jun 29, 2017

this is a pretty sweet tent. not what i was shopping for, but the sale price was to good to pass up. don’t care for the rainfly color, but thats probably why it was on sale, right? tent is very lite, and easy to set up with one person. like most 2 person backpacking tents, this is very small for two people. i bought it for solo trips. you could get two people inside it, but it would be very tight. vestibules could be bigger. footprint was nice. tent will kite in the wind if not staked down! still kinda torn on the whole led light system. i didn’t get the tent for that feature, but will say, the leds are handy at night in the tent. of course you have to carry batteries. only thing wrong with the tent is the sidewalls in the footbox area are not high enough. if it’s cold out and the fly is on, the tent will draft/draw air up from this area right on top of your feet. your feet are going to get cold! i plan to add a strip of rip-stop nylon about 12” high to this area to cause the draft to move up off of my feet. the tent has adequate guy lines, and seems sturdy in the wind. don’t think it would handle a snow-load on it, for those thinking of pushing the 3 season rating.
