The R1 Hoody provides great temperature regulation; the sleeve length is perfect for using the thumb-loops; and the hood with its asymmetric zipper eliminates the need for a balaclava.
My size large weighs only 6.3 ounces on my scale, and it packs down into its inner pocket so small that there's no reason not to have it with me all the time when hiking or traveling.
