Easy setup, great for weather

Written on Oct 03, 2017

We got this tent last week and took it on a long weekend in NE Iowa. Upon setting up we had weather coming in, wind and rain. It held up to HARD rain and wind and didn't leak a drop. We did have the fly properly guy lined out and the roof vents were open but still didn't leak. The fly was still damp in the morning, but again didn't leak inside. Easy to get in/out for us and our kids (3 and 5) and our 80 lb lab mix was happy to call it home for the weekend.

Pros: lightweight for its size Easy setup and take down great protection from weather good ventilation gear loft is nice height fits a queen and full air mattress with room to spare.

Cons: No real footprint available from Eureka

Is it a mountaineering tent, no, but it will do the job we need it to do which is car camping and canoe camping in a light weight, small package.

Exceeded expectations

Written on Sep 25, 2017

Very prompt purchase + delivery. I am very pleased with my '3 day backpack' so far. Good size, spacious, smooth zippers and looks good! Definitely worth the purchase. Quality craftsmanship, durable materials, functional design. I needed a bag with a larger center compartment, and this one delivered, while maintained the external dimensions of a typical multicompartment backpack

Happy to start...

I loved this pack. It fits me beautifully, which is hard to find as a shorter woman who is on the larger side. The pockets fit my needs beautifully for travel and it held my larger sized computer. Unfortunately less than a few weeks after getting the pack, one of the straps fell off and a passel of grown-ups were unable to reattach it with more attempts than I can count. It is still useable, but will be less comfortable in travel now and with the name Osprey, I expected better quality.

Works well!

I've read plenty of bad reviews on this piece. But I came into one for free and gave it a try. I've used it on two separate trips for a total of seven days of use now. I've heard about all the places it leaks and luckily, haven't experienced any them. I've filled it full, squeezed it into a full pack and not a drop. I hated the barreling of the old one and like this flatter design. I've switched over to the Osprey system for day hikes but like this (slightly) lighter option for backpacking. I've also added the quick change to the mouthpiece for easy-filling when filtering and haven't had any leaks on that piece either. I'm going to get another one for my wife so we'll see if I have the same luck.

Fun Hammock

Written on Sep 25, 2017

I have slept in this hammock with another person and been very comfortable. Our total weight is around 300lb. It is surprisingly lightweight. I almost didn't trust that it was as strong as it is supposed to be because of how thin the material is. It is reinforced and strong though. I used ENO straps with it.

Super Light Weight!

What can you say? Primus high quality stove with a super light weight 1L pot AND a windshield that clips over top the canister. Everything packs nicely into the pot along with a 100gram isobutane canister. Great bundle for backpacking!

Best fitting pack ever!

I've owned various packs over the years - Osprey, Gregory, Cabelas XPG, Mountain Hardwear. This year I decided to try this pack and am i ever happy i did. Majority of the pack weight (normally 38-40 lbs) is definitely being transferred to the hips with light pressure on the shoulder straps - never quite had that kinda comfort before. Tons of straps for lashing. Love the large mesh pockets for storing water bottles, tent poles, or whatever else. And the straps on the hip belt accommodated my camera, bear spray and a molle or two. The frame panel is easily adjustable as well. Highly reccommended!

Solid built backpack

Always thought Jansport was more about school bags then backpacking so I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem. 65L is the perfect size for multi day excursions. Fabrics are tough, fit system is awesome with a sliding adjustable harness and moveable shoulder straps. Big side mesh pockets for water bottle, tent poles, bear spray and whatever you fancy. Reasonable amount of lashing points on the bottom and top but the really treat was that not only can you access it from the top it has side access as well. So initial impressions are positive - next step is to see how well it does on the trail!

Pleasantly surprised and pleased!

Been using Granite Gear compression sacks for years - awesome - well crafted and probably the best in the industry. Was not aware that they also made backpacks so had to buy the Taku as I have been looking for the right day pack for years and I do believe I found it. I love the ability to organize and this pack has it all. Very comfortable shoulder straps - removable hip belt for commuting purposes but awesome fit when you are hiking. Hard to believe it is only a 24L - very pleased with my purchase - highly recommend any Granite Gear backpack.

Spacious but heavy!

This is an amazing tent but their is a price to pay - 5 lb 11 oz is quite heavy for a 2 man tent but:
- has an above average interior space. Something to be said for comfort camping
- huge spacious canopy - don't have to wait for your partner to get dressed. Tons of headroom to move around in.
- vertical doorways. You are not hitting the sides of the tent when you get up - you really do feel you are in a large room
- no drip vestibule doors. Never worry about rain or water dripping into your tent when you come and go
- gear pockets galore - two huge ones on either side. No need to bother with a gear loft
- solid aluminum poles (Easton make some of the best poles in the industry), durable fabrics and all seems to be well constructed.

It's a keeper!!
