i bought this for my girlfriend and i bougt the solar ridgerest since it was cheaper and i figured i didn't need as much. We just went camping and it hit about 40 degrees. Both of them did just fine insulating the ground. The basecamp provided much more support and was much more comfortable. Especially trying to sleep on the side. The basecamp pad provided complete cushion against my hip when sleeping on the side. I felt the ground with the RR solar (not too bad but definitely noticeable). I found myself rolling over onto the basecamp when she got up. The basecamp also rolls up and goes into the stuff sack which is much smaller in diameter than the RR. We just camp at sites so packing wasn't much of an issue for us. We checked out the Trail scout and although it packs into half the space, we didn't need it too. I would definitely recommend it for any non backpacking camping. I will likely upgrade my Solar RR to that.
