Own the 2 inch inflatable pad and it works well. Open the valve and let the air inflate though it'll take awhile. If you want a firmer pad, then blow into it then shut the valve. Be careful not to over inflate the pad for a firm pad as it may pop. It's easy to clean and relatively easy to store into its own stuff bag. Buy when it's on sale.

Use it mostly in the woods and mouintans. Together with the tent and additional camping gear it is almost to heavy, but the comfort is very good, and for the price you pay i guess it can´t get any better. For easy camping with friends and family this product is a must. My backpack contains; MSR Mutha Hubba, three therm-a-rest sleeping pads, three sleeping bags, cooking gear, a...

This is the original Thermarest and it works great. The only issue I have is I wish it was about 3" wider. Next time I'll buy the slightly wider version. Its worth the money!

I hike long, rough trails so minimal size and weight is important when choosing gear. This Therm-a-Rest pad is a little heavier and bulkier than others out there but a good nights sleep is my best friend when camping and this self-inflator delivers! I used to tough it out, but no more sore shoulders and hips for me. All foam has a memory of sorts so I leave the pad unrolled and...

i bought this for my girlfriend and i bougt the solar ridgerest since it was cheaper and i figured i didn't need as much. We just went camping and it hit about 40 degrees. Both of them did just fine insulating the ground. The basecamp provided much more support and was much more comfortable. Especially trying to sleep on the side. The basecamp pad provided complete cushion agai...

I don't sleep well on hard surfaces. Use this for overnight backpacking. The pad gives me the cushion I need plus helps keep me warm when the temperature drops into the 30's overnight. It's slightly heavier than a regular backpack sleeping pad, but a good night's rest is worth the extra ounces.

Q Is the basecamp sleep pad by therm-a-rest self-inflatable?
A
Expert Answer

Yes it is. The pad incorporates inner foam that expands when the valve is open. This is how the pad "self inflates." You will still need to add air to fill completely and adjust comfort level.
